Oaks & Ems
At Kane County Tree Care, we understand that oak and elm trees can run a higher risk of contracting diseases, so we take exclusive preventative measures among those trees alone. With these trees having their own diseases, we make it apparent to make an appointment with you in order to take precautionary action. Oak and Elm trees are a great addition to your property, and we will make sure they are healthy and secure from the first moment of installation.
To learn more about oak and elm trees, please read on:
Oak wilt is thought to be a native disease that is found primarily in oak trees. Red oak trees are more likely to contract the disease. White oaks are also susceptible and northern oaks are the least likely to get the disease. Most of the time when oak trees get the disease, it’s from other oak trees already have it. This is spread through the roots of the trees that are planted either next to or near other oak trees. To combat the disease, we will come in and break up the roots of the other diseased trees before it is officially removed from the property. Insects may also be the cause of the disease, so it is important to not prune these trees during the months of April to June.
Dutch Elm disease is a disease that primarily affects elm trees. This is contracted through a fungal infection carried by a bark elm beetle. We can tell when the tree is affected when we find either a green dot or ring around the trunk. Please contact us to confirm that your tree is indeed diseased so that we may remove the tree from the premises. This is a fast-spreading disease and if not taken care of properly, it could spread to all the other Elm trees in the area within a short amount of time.
Since these diseases are rare to treat, we recommend taking all precautionary methods in order to extend and ensure the life of the tree. We offer special non-harmful treatments for both trees. By utilizing this team, you are not only protecting your own trees, but also all the other ones in the neighboring areas. We want to ensure that all trees are protected as we try not to resort to the removal process.
Both of these diseases may be contracted easily if you aren’t mindful of the timeline that you decide to have your trees pruned. With the change of each season, the care for your trees should be treated differently. Please contact us so that we can better assist and direct you on when to take action on protecting your trees. The location of the trees in the area are also a factor as it could be in a dry or super wet area. We want to make sure each project is handled with a personal touch.
